“uAspire works to ensure that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to – and through – a postsecondary education.” Taken from the Mission Statement of a local Miami non-profit organization, this is what the media needs to be focused on, organizations such as this one, whom are doing whatever they can to give back to the community. uAspire’s Cap & Gown Gala featuring the 2015 First One Awards is the premier annual gathering of business and civic leaders from across Miami to celebrate uAspire’s mission to ensure that college remains an affordable option for all young people. Each year, they honor individuals from across Miami whose stories highlight the transformative power of higher education and the need for college to remain affordable for all of our state’s residents.
The 2015 First One Award Winners were:
- Alberto Carvalho – Superintendent, Miami Dade County Public Schools
- Simon Ferro – Shareholder, Gunster Law Firm
- Ileana Ros-Lehtinen – Florida U.S. Representative
This year’s gala also include sponsorship from Bacardi and live music by 30Vice. Giving children the opportunity to further their life skills by obtaining a financial assistance to start their college degree (with the full hopes of completing the program) should be the true Reality TV series currently in it’s millionth season. To uAspire Miami and other organizations like it, I tip my hat to you.
