My favorite characteristic about this fellow Aquarian is her energy. Always positive, always drawing you in to find out more about her with the perpetual smile. I’m a Trinidadian, born on the island and raised here in South Florida.
How long have you lived in the city?
I’ve lived here in South Florida for over 25 years, outside of my 5-year run in Tallahassee as I attending Florida State University (Go Noles).
What are you passionate about & why?
I am passionate about creating. With a foundation in radio and learning very early on that being able to communicate to the masses is a gift, I took those principals and created Vanessa James Media, which houses all of my talents under one umbrella. Within that realm, I proudly curate events, create synergies with brands, voice global projects and campaigns, and contribute to a variety of lifestyle and travel outlets.
What do you hope to accomplish through your talents?
I’m in the process of creating a global travel series where I will share stories, cultures, experiences, and provide a place for people from all walks of life to connect and enjoy.
If you had super powers, what would your power be?
Cloning!
How would/do you use your super powers to accomplish your goals?
It’s a beauty and a curse to have great talent. You want to do so much, be in multiple places, and spread opportunity all around. It can be challenging at times, especially when YOU are the brand, but the reward is worth the complexity. My superpower would most definitely be the ability to have a small army of Vanessa’s running around to execute my multiple ideas and projects– now that would be a global takeover.
What was your most significant achievement in 2014 (or in life)?
In 2014, I celebrated 5 years as an entrepreneur of my company Vanessa James Media. One small idea of connecting people and cultures from walks of media grew into a much bigger platform than I imagined with my signature annual events “The VJMedia Mixology”. It is now a national force to which I plan on taking to NYC and LAX in the coming year.
What if anything do you hope to contribute to Miami?
I hope to leave my Caribbean mark on Miami. South Florida is such a beautiful melting pot of different cultures and people and the Caribbean culture, so vast and unique, sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. Being a proud Trinidadian, I hope to be able to educate and celebrate both my culture and the Caribbean culture in the marketplace more and allow others to see the beauty in its people and cultures
