Highlighting Our Community: South Florida Represents – Christina Duren

Introduced though a mutual friend,  Leslie Heigh,  Christina has always represented another positive influence among my circle of acquaintances in South Florida. From her constant positive outlooks on most of her life situations to her constant actions of “accept change or be left in the dust”,  I’ve always admired Christina from her digital impressions (through social media) and her sustained entrepreneurial spirit. Join me in continuing to wish Christina much success for her bright future ahead.

Profession/What do you do?
Founder & CEO of Beautiful Brown Girls Brunch Club

Are you originally from Miami? If not, where are you originally from?
Yes, Born and Raised in Miami!

How long have you lived in the city?
I lived in Miami for 24 years total. Moved away for about 7 years but have been back for the last 5 years.

What are you passionate about & why?
I’m passionate about connecting like minded women who are looking to meet new people, learn from each other, and build each other up.

What do you hope to accomplish through your talents?
I hope to create a movement for women of color to begin to connect with each other, and break the stereotype that we aren’t encouraging and empowering towards each other.

If you had super powers, what would your power be?
My super powers would be to read minds 🙂

How would/do you use your super powers to accomplish your goals?
I’ve always been big on energies, and people’s intentions. I’m very protective about who I bring into Beautiful Brown Girls (BBG) because I always want to make sure they are aligned with the mission and goals of BBG. So being able to read minds to get the real thoughts of what people are thinking would help with making sure I have the right people and energy around me to grow my business.

What was your most significant achievement in 2014 (or in life)?
My most significant achievement in 2014 was growing Beautiful Brown Girls to over 10, 000 members. When I first started the group it was done as a side hobby for fun. As I saw how needed it was amongst women in my culture I knew that I needed to take this message to a larger scale and create a movement of other women who were on the same mission. This year we were able to expand nationwide with 15 chapters and I’m very excited to see how much bigger this movement can grow.

What if anything do you hope to contribute to Miami
I hope to contribute a loving space where women can come and know that they will be welcomed with no judgments or drama, but a loving and empowering sista circle.
