Highlighting Our Community: South Florida Represents – Masson Liang

This photography enthusiasts has displayed some major attention grabbing actions over the few months that I’ve known him. Having first met him through a few Instagram Instameets,  followed up with his participation in the 2014 Help Portrait Miami initiative,  Mason’s talents are incomparable, showing his true talent of photography while capturing the spirit of the world around us.  It was time to put him in front of the camera and highlight this gentleman.

Name: Masson Liang
City: Palmetto Bay, Florida
Profession/What do you do? I’m a Business Intelligence Developer

Are you originally from Miami? If not, where are you originally from?
I am! Born and raised, but am of Chinese ethnic descent.

How long have you lived in the city?
I’ve lived in Miami all my life, with the exception of the 3-4 years when I went to school at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.

What are you passionate about & why?
As of last year, I’ve been focusing my passions on photography. Ever since I could remember, I would carry around a point-and-shoot camera taking pictures of anything and everything. I went to a free photo seminar at the Polaroid Fotobar at The Falls last year and decided to take my photography to the next level and have been hooked ever since.

What do you hope to accomplish through your talents?
I don’t necessarily have any specific goals with my photography other than continually learning and pursuing my talents in the field. I’m open to whatever opportunities or doors God may open to me in the future through my photo adventures.

If you had super powers, what would your power be?
Ha! Seems like a simple question, but hard to pinpoint just one. I wish I had the ability to stop time (i.e. Click) because sometimes I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything I want. Not sure if this would even be considered a super power! 🙂

How would/do you use your super powers to accomplish your goals?
Perfect follow up question…Stopping time would allow me to go anywhere and shoot for days and days and would give me plenty of quiet time to sit back, take a breather, and meditate on things. Life is too fast these days.

What was your most significant achievement in 2014 (or in life)?
Last year was a great year for me. I had wonderful opportunities to volunteer and help various organizations in need through my church and through various friends I met along the way. These small sacrifices of time for me may mean the world to others and are some of the greatest things one can do for others in need. I was also able to take my photography to the next level and meet so many wonderful people through various Photo groups and Instameets, etc. Including Mr. Anthony Jordon himself!

What if anything do you hope to contribute to Miami?
I would like to be a positive example to anyone I come in contact with in person and through the various outlets of social media. I love posting pictures from my various volunteering opportunities to encourage others to go out and do the same. A fitting quote from Mother Teresa says, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
