Name: Kareem David Piper
City: Miami, Fl.
Profession/What do you do? Fine Arts Painter/Educator

Are you originally from Miami? If not, where are you originally from?
I am not originally from Miami, I was born in Trinidad.

How long have you lived in the city?
I came back to Miami, permanently in 2007, prior to that I was in the U.S. Marine Corps and traveled the world due to my service.

What are you passionate about & why?
I am passionate about Art because I truly believe Art has the power to not only serve as a tool of communicating ideals but it also has the power of transcending time and bringing man closer to the natural world around him and his fellow man for that matter. As we advance as [a] species so too does our dependency on technology, which is good and bad, in one aspect technology has connected us like never before, on the other hand it also tends to make these connections not so “deep”. I believe Art when used properly can also connect people but at a much deeper level.

What do you hope to accomplish through your
talents?
My ultimate life goal is to use my talents as a means [to] conveying one simple truth, that is, we are all one, and that every living being in existence, exist simply to co-exist, to enjoy each other, to grow with each other, to learn from each other and to pass on what we learn to future generations. To me this is life eternal; to me this is how you live forever!

If you had super powers, what would your power be?
If I had a super power I would love to have the ability to travel through “space and time”!

How would/do you use your super powers to accomplish your goals?
I would use my super powers to visit great people in history, so that I can learn some of their lessons that may have been lost due to bureaucracy. I would also use my powers to explore the Universe entirely. All this simply to learn and then share!

What was your most significant achievement in 2014 (or in life)?
Most significant accomplishment for 2014, was having the opportunity to show at a Gallery in Manhattan that one of my artistic idols, Jean Michelle Basquiat also showed when the Gallery first opened, also to close out the year I was also honored to be accepted to Miami International University of Art and Design to pursue the terminal degree in my field (MFA) which I started this January. All of this however is dwarfed by my most significant life accomplishment, which is co-parenting two beautiful beings, my kids Kamryn and Jailene.

What if anything do you hope to contribute to Miami?
I would like to educate the inner city kids in Miami about the true power of Art.
